Fraud Warning: Beware of Fake Debt Collection Calls and Emails
Someone is running a debt collection scam using the name American Cash Advance. Individuals have posed as a third-party collection agency and contacted both customers and non-customers, demanding payment for a debt. This is a scam designed to frighten you into paying money you do not owe. Please be careful if anyone contacts you claiming to collect a debt on our behalf.
American Cash Advance does not use third-party collection agencies, and we will never ask you to make a collection payment by email. Every loan we make is completed in person at one of our 43 branches across Louisiana and Mississippi. You can start your application online, but you finish it at a branch. Anyone demanding payment by phone, email or wire transfer for a loan you did not collect in person is not us.
We have reported this activity to the Federal Trade Commission, and we encourage you to do the same. When you contact the FTC, use reference code 59816973, call 1-877-438-4338, or visit www.ftc.gov, and you will be linked to the open investigation.
How to stay safe
- Hang up on anyone you believe is falsely posing as a debt collector.
- Do not reply to collection emails you believe are fake. Delete them.
- Never give your card number, bank details or personal information over the phone or by email.
- Do not wire money to anyone claiming to collect a debt.
